Birth Stone for May

You may be familiar with birthstones - gemstones that are assigned to each month. These stones come with their own meanings and have been in use since ancient times.

The birthstones we currently associate with each month are not necessarily the same ones used centuries ago. During ancient times, birthstones were related to the 12 gemstones on the breastplate of the High Priest of the Israelites, from the Book of Exodus in the Bible.

In the past, the colour of each gem was the most important feature of the stone. Modern jewellers continue to add options to the modern birthstone chart.

Birthstones are colourful gems that are assigned to each of the twelve months. These stones are associated with unique meanings and are a great way to get in touch with the best qualities surrounding each month of birth.

The idea of birthstones dates back to ancient times. The first lists of birthstones included only one for each month, but modern-day jewellers have added more stones to the list so there are plenty of gorgeous options to choose from.

April has two birthstones: diamond and crystals.

April Birthstone - Diamond

Diamonds are famous for their elegance and beauty. These are highly prized gems since they are some of the rarest in the world!

This stone is known to mean everlasting love, courage, and beauty. In the past, people wore diamonds to protect against the plague because of their supposed healing powers.

The symbolism associated with diamonds varies by country. In Sanskrit, diamonds are called vajra, which translates to “lightning.” In Hindu mythology, diamonds were also the weapon of Indra, the king of gods.

The other birthstone of April is the rock crystal. Rock crystals are clear quartz stones and are known for their healing abilities.

These crystals are transparent and colourless. The name “crystal” comes from the Greek krustallos, meaning “ice.”
